Abstract: An efficient, inexpensive, and mild transition-metal oxidation protocol has bee n developed for the Fe(NO3)3/4-OH-TEMPO-catalyzed aerobic selective oxida tion of a wide range of primary and secondary alcohols, which may bear carbon- carbon double bond or O or N or S as heteroatoms, to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones.

Key words: alcohol, selective oxidation, air, 4-hydroxy-2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethyl-piperidyl-1-oxy, ferric nitrate nonahydrate
