Abstract: The main role of Au in Pd-Au bimetallic catalysts for vinyl acetate(VA) synthes is is to break contiguous Pd atom ensembles at the surface into isolated Pd mono mers. The absence of contiguous Pd sites thus significantly reduces the formati on of combustion by-products and suppresses the poison effects of CO, thus enha ncing the VA formation selectivity and activity.
