Abstract: The hydrolysis of cellulose in acid ionic liquids was investigated systematically. Ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride was used as the solvent of cellulose, and acid ionic liquid 1-butyl sulfonic acid-3-methylimidazolium chloride was used as the catalyst. It was proved that this novel hydrolysis process is totally feasible, and total reducing sugar yield is up to 95%.
