Abstract: A renewable route to produce common petroleum-based oxygenated hydrocarbons from 1,2-propylene glycol, the derivative of bio-glycerol, was proposed. The reaction pathway of transformation of 1,2-propylene glycol significantly depended on the surface acid-base properties of the oxide catalysts such as Al2O3-, MgO-, CaO-, and KNO3-modified MgO.
