Abstract: A series of zirconium phosphate sulfophenylphosphonates (SZrPP-n) were synthesized and characterized. SZrPP-n possessed a high acidity amount and thermal stability with layered structure. As a solid acid catalyst, SZrPP-n exhibited high catalytic activity and stability for methyl glycolate synthesis from carbonylation of HCHO with CO under mild conditions.
